When people think of casino gambling in the United States their attention is generally turned to the gambling scene in Las Vegas. While there aren’t any places in the United States to rival the gambling scene in Las Vegas, there are other places to go to have the gambling experience. People may not realize it, but there are even opportunities to gamble in Nebraska.

Most of the casino scene in the state of Nebraska takes place in the Native American run areas. The Native Americans are often granted permission to have casinos on their land. This can even be the case when there are not any other places in the state where gambling is legal. Because the Native Americans were treated unfairly in the times of early settlement the government has tried to pay them for their pains by giving them land and other rights. The Native Americans are able to put casinos on their land. This creates great business opportunities for the Native Americans because there is not much competition outside of their own casinos.

The truth of the matter is that the casino gambling scene in Nebraska isn’t quite as exciting as it may be in other areas. There are a few small casinos, but they do not have the same appeal as casinos in other areas. That being said, for those people that are really looking for the opportunity to gamble without going to Vegas, Nebraska can fill their needs.

Some of the biggest attractions at the casinos are video gaming machines, bingo and racing. The racing that takes place is mostly in the form of horse and dog racing.

The biggest casino in Nebraska is the Ohiya Casino. This casino is nearly 15,000 square feet and has tons of gaming machines and bingo seats. There are nearly 200 gaming machines in all and there are 100 seats for player to play bingo. The party never stops in this casino as there are restaurants that serve food twenty four hours a day.

The horseracing in Nebraska is a big part of the gambling scene in Nebraska. There are tracks that are open for 12 hours a day. These tracks often will hold more than 7 races per day. This creates a place where people can go to spend the entire day watching the races. This is a great way to change the pace between times while in the casino.

Gambling is not a new thing in the history of Nebraska. Omaha, one of the larger cities in Nebraska, has a rich gambling history. At one point Omaha was one of the biggest gambling cities in the United States of America. There aren’t the same gambling opportunities available today. The only types of gambling that are still present in Omaha today are keno and slot machines. These opportunities are not the only ones available to people in Nebraska. While there aren’t a ton of casinos in Nebraska, there are more opportunities to go and visit casinos in Iowa. Iowa is within close enough proximity that people could seek check out these other casinos if they desired.

Did you know that …

... the first mechanical slot machine was the Liberty Bell, invented in 1895 by car mechanic, Charles Fey (1862-1944) of San Francisco?

The Liberty Bell slot machine had three spinning reels. Diamond, spade, and heart symbols were painted around each reel, plus the image of a cracked Liberty Bell. A spin resulting in three Liberty Bells in a row gave the biggest payoff, a grand total of fifty cents or ten nickels.

The original Liberty Bell slot machine can still be seen at the Liberty Belle Saloon & Restaurant in Reno, Nevada.
