Play Two Credits, Play Three Credits

On some machines that accept two coins or three coins, you may see a button that states PLA Y TWO COINS or PLA Y THREE COINS. These would serve the same function as the PLA Y MAX;:

CREDITS button. For example, if you saw PLA Y TWO COINS on a machine, that machine would most likely accept two coins as the maximum bet. Pressing the button would deduct two from your credits and spin the reels.

These buttons also may read as BET TWO COINS, PLA Y TWO CREDITS, BET THREE COINS, or PLAY THREE CREDITS.

Play One Credit

For players who prefer playing one credit at a time, the slots have a “PLA Y ONE CREDIT” button on every machine. Pressing this button will play one credit toward the next pull. Note: this will not automatically activate the reels as the PLA Y MAX CREDITS button will do.

However, nothing will happen, that is, the reels will not spin until the handle is pulled or the SPIN REELS button is pressed.

You can also pay two credits by pressing the “Play One Credit” button twice, or three coins by pressing it three times, or the maximum number of credits by pressing this button until the full allowance of coins is reached.

This button may also read as BET ONE COIN or PLA Y ONE CREDIT, or have another similar designation amounting to the same thing.

The cash Out Button

The CASH OUT button, when pressed, converts all the credits built up over the playing session into coins that drop like a metal waterfall into the coin drop below.

Players use the CASH OUT button, located prominently on the front of the machine, when they’re ready to change machines, to call it a day at the machines altogether, or simply to hear the victory charge of coins pounding into the coin drop. The sound of coins dropping is always fun!

The Change Button

On the far left position on the button display will be a CHANGE button. This convenient button brings you door to door service from the changeperson. (Normally changegirl, but males do occupy these formerly The Elements of a Slot Machine -all-female jobs in some now.) Pressing the CHANGE button lights up the red candle light at the top of your machine and lets the attendants know that you need
service.

I actually have a small story about the change button. On my last trip to Las Vegas, I was interviewing the slots manager at a small off-strip casino while seated at one of the slots. I was on a stool, leaning with my back against the machine, facing the slots manager who stood behind me. (All that at the same time, and conversation too.) He was busy elucidating me on his knowledge of the slots, which, just as typical of casino games employees as with players, was rife with misconceptions.

In the middle of the conversation, a male change person came by, interrupted the manager’s conversation with a half sarcastic, half joking remark, reached over me to hit a button on the machine, and moved on again. I though he was play-acting a spin of the reels and thought nothing of it. The conversation continued wig the same scenario repeating itself a few minutes later, and then third time after that again. I couldn’t figure out why he WOWI

keep interrupting his manager.

It was only later, while I was studying the machine’s design, 1 think it was an IGT Red, White and Blue, that I realized I had been’ leaning on the change button, and the changeperson came hur-.. riedly over each time to find his services weren’t needed. So:: that’s what was going on. Oh well. Anyway, those change; buttons do work.

The Displays

There will be several displays on the front of the machine. While different slots may display the information in different locations, and include things others won’t, the basic information will remain the same and be part of any modem slot machine.

Did you know that …

... the first mechanical slot machine was the Liberty Bell, invented in 1895 by car mechanic, Charles Fey (1862-1944) of San Francisco?

The Liberty Bell slot machine had three spinning reels. Diamond, spade, and heart symbols were painted around each reel, plus the image of a cracked Liberty Bell. A spin resulting in three Liberty Bells in a row gave the biggest payoff, a grand total of fifty cents or ten nickels.

The original Liberty Bell slot machine can still be seen at the Liberty Belle Saloon & Restaurant in Reno, Nevada.
