If want to play blackjack and how to count cards in blackjack, then this can be a definite game winning blackjack strategy. Now in your quest to learn how to count cards in blackjack there is some things to know before you use this blackjack strategy.

Like spoke about in another article, the fewer decks in play mean the easier it is to learn how to count cards in blackjack. If you are playing with one deck or two, then it is obviously easier to keep count in your head. Now when you start playing with 5 or 6 decks like most casinos, you may find this blackjack strategy is harder.

In 1956, a paper was published by Baldwin, Cantey, Maisel, and McDermott in the “Journal of the American Statistical Association” laying out a set of recommendations for playing the game of blackjack. In this were recommendations made that are very close to today’s basic use of the card counting blackjack strategy. The first realization he had about his studies on the act of learning how to count cards in blackjack was that the composition of the deck changed with each card dealt.

Also he found that some combinations of the remaining cards always were in favor of the house. In 1962, Dr. Thorp published his now famous book, “Beat the Dealer”, which contained a simple yet profound message that decks of cards have memory. He said that each hand is dependent on the makeup of the deck at that time and by paying attention to the cards already played, the player can almost predict what will be appearing in the deck next.

Simulation and Card Counting With the help of a computer, Thorp did a statistical analysis called the Monte Carlo simulation and discovered that 10’s and Aces remaining in the deck put the player at an advantage, while 5’s and 6’s being left in the deck put the dealer at an advantage. Thus, card counting was born.

If the player could keep track of the cards left in the deck, they could decide how to bet on each hand. For example, if there are many 10’s and aces left they would be smart to bet high, and if there are lots of fives and sixes left they might want to bet low. You can see that once you learn the proper way of how to count cards in blackjack you will be able to apply this blackjack strategy anywhere.

Did you know that …

... the first mechanical slot machine was the Liberty Bell, invented in 1895 by car mechanic, Charles Fey (1862-1944) of San Francisco?

The Liberty Bell slot machine had three spinning reels. Diamond, spade, and heart symbols were painted around each reel, plus the image of a cracked Liberty Bell. A spin resulting in three Liberty Bells in a row gave the biggest payoff, a grand total of fifty cents or ten nickels.

The original Liberty Bell slot machine can still be seen at the Liberty Belle Saloon & Restaurant in Reno, Nevada.
