Blackjack tournament:

The next level of gambling is not based on the money aspect as much as the bragging rights. The next step in competitive card gaming is the competition of a blackjack tournament. Most of the times a blackjack tournament is a multilevel competition to decide a champion of the participants. These tournaments usually have a cost associated with them to enter and each player will be assigned a given number of poker chips. Each level of the competition will be determined by the winner of each table. The next level will involve the winners of each table to compete again in a smaller group. Depending on the number of participants, the blackjack tournament can take several hours to complete. The ultimate winner is the person who wins the final round and still has poker chips left. At some casinos, these tournaments will have large prizes for the winners. And usually the winners will be used in advertising promotions and even commercial spots. The down side to winning these tournaments is being faced with the tax liability of the prizes won. Sometimes a blackjack tournament may have an escalating fee. These tournaments have a much higher cash prize for the winner. Tournament playing is not for the amateur. While blackjack is a simple game when considering entering a tournament, you have to know the casino rules and be a quick player. The basic rules of blackjack will apply in most tournaments. The dealer will be dealing with the player cards face up and the dealer will have one card face up and the other face down. The dealer has to hit on sixteen and below and not allowed to hit on seventeen and up. One major difference in some tournaments will be players playing against each other instead of the dealer. Before entering a blackjack tournament make sure you understand whether or not the fee goes up at each level of the tournament. These tournaments get quite expensive by the time you make it to the final round.

Did you know that …

... the first mechanical slot machine was the Liberty Bell, invented in 1895 by car mechanic, Charles Fey (1862-1944) of San Francisco?

The Liberty Bell slot machine had three spinning reels. Diamond, spade, and heart symbols were painted around each reel, plus the image of a cracked Liberty Bell. A spin resulting in three Liberty Bells in a row gave the biggest payoff, a grand total of fifty cents or ten nickels.

The original Liberty Bell slot machine can still be seen at the Liberty Belle Saloon & Restaurant in Reno, Nevada.
